I do get to travel a lot with my research – I study several locations in Scotland and England, including Lancashire and South Lanarkshire so I often travel around them to speak to people. Sometimes I get to attend conferences to speak about my research and share the science which is always fun – I have been to Italy, Germany, Canada and other UK cities (London, Edinburgh and more!) – I love it!
As the others have said, you tend to travel a lot as a scientist, presenting your work to other scientists around the world! I’ve been to Boston, Miami, Sweden, France, Italy, and many places all over the UK! One of my next trips is to Texas in the USA! Can’t wait for that! – And this is all through work! When I take a holiday I get to go to even more places! Like the Dominican Republic! Lovely lovely sun!
My research itself doesn’t take me to exotic field sites at the moment (I mostly work on computers), but as other scientists have said, I do get the chance to go to conferences to talk about my work a lot. These might be in the UK (I’ve been to places like Aberystwyth, Blackpool, Bristol, and Lincoln and this year going to Sheffield, Lancaster, and Cambridge) or abroad (I’ve been to Canada and Utah, and will be going to North Carolina this year – probably Brasil next year!). So even if I don’t have to travel much at the moment to do my research, I still get to travel with my work 🙂
Yes! I travel for conferences in all different places (last year New York and Cardiff, this year Paris) to present my work at least a couple of times a year, and I go to Malaysia for at least 1 month each year .
