• Question: do you think it would be possible to make a boat with two of every animal on it that could float and withstand a flood? if so, do you like trains?

      Hey Qwertyuiopas!

      I don’t think you could feasibly build a boat big enough for two of very animal and enough water and food to sustain them through a flood! (with enough space between them so they don’t attack each other!). However I’m sure it would be possible to build a floating platform to house everything on.

      Does this mean I can’t answer the train question? :p haha! I shall answer anyway! I’m not a fan of trains unfortunately 🙁

      Like Aled, I think it’s *technically* possible to build a boat big enough to house every animal on the planet. (But to make it easier, can we leave the fish in the sea? They’re not going to drown, right? 😉 ) Building this boat is just a matter of building big enough – and there’s nothing in principle stopping us!

      *However* – making all the animals happy is a different thing! As Aled says, they need a lot of space, they will need food, and they will need attention!

      And unlike Aled, I *do* like trains: they’re more comfortable than airplanes, and you don’t need to drive (like in a car), so you can work or watch a movie! 😉

      No. The sheer number of species makes this impossible. We know of at least 1.2 million species alive today and we think that the total number (including those we don’t know about yet) is about 10 million species or maybe even more (some people think the number is as high as 70 million but I think this might be a bit high). Either way, there are a lot of species and if you double that number (two of each species) and figure out how much space they would take up, or how much space on average would be available for each species on a boat of any given size, you quickly realise that this is impossible.

      Trains are good: relatively quick and you can nap or work while you’re travelling 🙂
