• Question: Are there any particular types of superbugs that you work against?

      Hi Knighto (again and again!)

      There are lots of super bugs I work on… some include:

      Escherichia coli (E. coli)
      Methicillin resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
      Vancomycin resistant enterrococci (VRE)
      Extended spectrum beta-lactam resistant bacteria (ESBLs)

      Pseudomonas aeruginosa (this is the main one I look as although not well known it is becoming a much bigger problem in hospitals worldwide!)

      However, there are many others which aren’t technically superbugs (this is a term used by the media) however they have resistance to lots of antibiotics BUT because they don’t infect people in great number they aren’t classed as “superbugs”.
