• Question: when will fosil fuels run out and what would we use instead of them

      We don’t know exactly. Probably they will not run out entirely, but when they become scarce, they will become more and more expensive. So it will be a (relatively) slow change.

      This is good, because we will have some time to adapt! I hope (and it looks like) we will replace them mostly with solar and wind energy.

      How long we have depends on what technologies we use to get the last remaining bits of oil out of the ground. There is still a huge amount, but it’s becoming more difficult to get it out. And more polluting!

      Hi billzer1,

      Willem is right, we don’t know exactly when we would run out – it is more likely as Willem has said that they will become more and more expensive and that will push for alternatives before they are ‘all out’.

      We already have many researchers and scientists working on alternative options to fossil fuels – in Aberdeen there is a lot of interest in new forms of power such as tidal power, wind power, and wave energy! Many individuals also produce solar energy through panels on their roofs around the city. I would think that we will have a mix of solutions to fossil fuels in the future 🙂
