      Hi Fran!

Pancakes are really, *really* old! People first started growing grains about 12,000 years ago. The first thing they made with it, people think, was… pancakes! But they were probably not as tasty as the pancakes you know: there was no sugar, salt was really expensive, and most people probably used water instead of milk and eggs.

So to come back to your question: we don’t know who invented pancakes, and we will probably never know, because they were invented before people knew how to write!

      Hi fran1022,

I have no idea who invented pancakes, but it looks like Willem summed it up well! I agree though, pancakes are amazing (had some for breakfast on saturday!) and it would be really cool to know what that person was thinking when they first made them.

      Hi Fran1022,
Awesome question! I’ve never thought about who invented pancakes before. Thanks Willem for teaching us!
I do know that it’s thought we eat pancakes on pancake day as it was a way to use up all the rich foods like eggs and sugar before the beginning of lent. Which I am happy about as I love pancakes! There is a restaurant in London that only sells massive pancakes, covered with anything you can imagine!
